In this class, we review the book of Daniel, with a special focus on how the prophecies of this book are partly fulfilled in the time of the Maccabees. We also discuss the portions of Daniel which are deuterocanonical, and the various languages present in the book.

Sunday Sermon, November 2nd -- How Not to Be a Forgotten Soul in Purgatory
In the unusual circumstance of celebrating All Souls' Day on a Sunday, we consider the nature of purgatory but especially focus on how to avoid becoming a poor forgotten soul in purgatory.
How not to become a forgotten soul in purgatory:
1) Believe in purgatory (be a Catholic).
2) Surround yourself with family and friends who believe in purgatory and will pray for you. Join a Catholic parish where the people pray for those who have died.
3) Ask for prayers and Masses to be offered in your behalf after you die. Let your funeral be a true Catholic funeral that reminds people to pray for you (not just a celebration of life). Set aside some of your own funds for Masses to be said for you.
4) Have devotion to Mary: The Brown Scapular, the Rosary, the First Saturdays. Also, have a devotion to the souls in purgatory and pray for them yourself during your life.
5) Finally, remember that we do not have to go to purgatory - we can just be saints, and go straight to heaven. Purgatory is not necessary, if only we are willing to follow God perfectly in this life.
