Sunday Sermon, September 1 -- Almsgiving as Part of Charity

"Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: To care for orphans and windows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained by the world."  (James 1:27)

Considering the great work of almsgiving, we look to how this act relates to the virtue of charity.  Charity's primary act is to love. The act of love has three internal effects: joy, peace, and mercy. And three external effects: beneficence, almsgiving, and fraternal correction.

Adult Faith Formation, Understanding St Thomas Aquinas -- September 1, Session 12 -- The Trinity

Continuing our study of the Summa Theologica of St Thomas, we now look to the treatise on the Trinity. This is the penultimate course!

We discuss an analogy for understanding the Trinity -- God knows himself, and the Father begets the Son; God loves himself, and the Father and Son breathe forth the Holy Spirit.

We also look to the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 explanation of the Trinity:  5 notions, 4 relations, 3 real relations (Persons), 2 processions, 1 God.

We cover ST I, qq. 27-43.  [here]!
