All Saints' Holy Day of Obligation

The first precept ("You shall attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation and rest from servile labor") requires the faithful to sanctify the day commemorating the Resurrection of the Lord as well as the principal liturgical feasts honoring the mysteries of the Lord, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the saints; in the first place, by participating in the Eucharistic celebration, in which the Christian community is gathered, and by resting from those works and activities which could impede such a sanctification of these days. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2042)

Thursday, November 1st is a Holy Day of obligation - the Solemnity of All Saints'. On this day, every Catholic is obligated to attend Mass (unless there is a grave cause which prevents him). It is a mortal sin to purposefully skip a holy day.

On a more positive note, we recognize that the Solemnity of All Saints' is an opportunity for us to recall the fellowship which we have with all the holy men and women who have gone before us, and who have been recognized by the Church for their heroic sanctity. These are not simply individuals who died long ago, bu they are our true friends and close companions! The saints are with us always. If only we were more mindful of their presence and their constant prayers, we would be much more joyful!

At Corpus Christi, there will be a vigil Mass on Wednesday eve (which counts for the Holy Day), as well as two Masses on November 1st.

Schedule:
Wednesday, October 31st - 5:30pm (vigil)
Thursday, November 1st - 6:30am and 5:30pm

All Hallow's Eve Saints Parade!

As Catholics, we celebrate October 31st as an important religious holiday. It is not a night of ghosts and goblins, but rather a time to remember the heroes and heroins of the faith who have gone before us and who still cheer us on from their place in heaven. This is a night to remember the saints!

Halloween is All Hallow's Eve, that is, the Eve of All Saints' Day. November 1st is a holy day of obligation - all Catholics are gravely obligated to attend Mass (and it is a mortal sin to skip Mass on a holy day) - and the feast begins the evening before.
At Corpus Christi, we will be celebrating a 5:30pm vigil Mass on Wednesday, October 31st. This Mass fulfills the obligation (just like a Saturday evening Mass counts for Sunday).

After the vigil Mass, we will have an "All Saints" parade, in which we would invite children to dress up as their favorite saint. This will begin at the conclusion of the Mass and will continue with games and treats in the basement of the Church (at about 6:30pm).

WE NEED HELP FROM PARENTS TO PLAN THE GAMES! -- please consider coming to a planing meeting at the Church this Wednesday (October 24th) at 6:30pm.

Isn't this a nice "halloween" costume?!
